Christmas Giving Tree
The Christmas Giving Tree program will be a service project that Rhinelander Rotary will participate in again this Holiday Season. Rotarian Kathy Shaltis will coordinate this event for our club and has accepted the help of Rotarians Kyle Gruening and Janine Menden. For those members who did not receive their sponsor child information at the November 24th regular club meeting please contact Kathy Shaltis at 362-7878 as soon as possible. The Rhinelander High school Interact Club will wrap the gifts on December 11th.
Season of Giving
Kyle Gruening and other Rotarian volunteers and family members graciously baked 53 dozen cookies which were donated to "Downtown Rhinelander's Season of Giving" program. Thanks to all those who helped!
RYE Summer Exchange
The Rhinelander Rotary Board has authorized our RYE officer LeeAnne Miller to recruit interested high school youth for a four week summer exchange. This opportunity to spend four weeks abroad in one of 15 different countries is a Rotary sponsored program that requires a reciprocal arrangement in which our outbound student would stay with a host family that will be sending their son or daughter home after the exchange to spend four weeks in our community with the original student and family. Up to five students will be permitted to apply for this exchange. For further information please contact LeeAnne Miller, Chris Lenard, or visit www.summerexchange.org
International Projects
Rotarian Kevin Jenkins will be visiting Tanzania at the end of December to get a first hand look at the international project that our club will be taking part in. Kevin has had to receive a series of vaccinations in preparation for this trip and reports that sometimes the cure may be worse than the disease. Rotary International has provided Kevin with a $3,000.00 travel grant to help with expenses.
Rotarian Dan Kuzlik visited Chimbote Peru over the Thanksgiving Holiday period. Dan visited an international service project that we are partnering in with another club from Minnesota.
The Table
Rotarian Jim Brown and numerous other Rhinelander Rotarians selflessly donated their time to serve at the meal program "The Table" the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Volunteering for the "The Table" has become an annual project for our club. Thanks to everyone who gave of their time.
Red Marquardt Sawmill Project
The Red Marquardt sawmill museum project at Pioneer Park is nearing completion and thanks to the efforts of a lot of Rotary volunteers we will be under budget. Steve Marquardt, son of Red and Mae Marquardt, has donated a large amount of personal time and effort into seeing this project and should be commended.
Meeting Location Changes
The Rhinelander Rotary club will hold its regular club meeting on December 1st at the Fireside Supper Club on Highway K. The club meeting on December 8th will be held at the Al-Gen Supper Club located on Faust Lake Road. Meeting times will be the same. We will hold an advisory vote on a change of venue at a later club meeting.
Spring Gala
The annual "Spring Gala" dinner and fundraiser will be held on April 18th, 2009 at the Holiday Acres Resort. Rotarian Monica Hilt will be coordinating this event.
